BayIND hosts Student Excursion

Students from LMU in Bavaria explored India during a student excursion in February 2019. BayIND supported the excursion by organising a cultural programme in Mysore and visits to companies and an NGO in Bangalore.

A group of 14 students from Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich (LMU), accompanied by Dr Margit Riedel from LMU and Prof Dr Paranjape from Savitribai Phule Pune University, visited Pune, Bangalore and Mysore during their student excursion in India.

The Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation (BayIND) organised a visit to the company Byju’s and the NGO IT for Change which are both working in the field of digital education for the students who will be teachers in the future.

Byju’s, a Bangalore based firm offering online tutoring provided a unique insight into their work. Founded in 2011 the successful start-up has gone global. With their app, they provide school students with videos created by professional teachers.

The NGO IT for Change also presented their activities in the field of digital education and discussed the role of private education institutions in India critically. By focusing their work on the training of teachers their aim is to integrate Information and Communications Technology into government schools and teacher colleges to bring about social change through improved education for Indian students.

Moreover, the group of students visited Bio-lutions, a company with the ambition to revolutionise waste management by producing biodegradable packaging and tableware disposables.

The cultural programme consisted of a trip to the city of Mysore, where the students visited the Mysore Palace which is the official residence of the Wadivar dynasty and the seat of the Kingdom of Mysore. The tour at the Chennakesava Temple in Somnathpura introduced the group to the culture of Hinduism.
