Preparation seminar for the participants of the BayIND Summer School 2019

On 28th and 29th June 2019 BayIND conducted the intercultural sensitivity training for Bavarian students who are participating in the BayIND Summer School in India. The students intensively involved themselves to understand different facets of business and social culture of India.

In the seminar the participants gained a deeper understanding of India and how to handle cross-cultural misunderstandings in business and everyday life. The students learnt how to use this knowledge to build successful communication strategies in their business and everyday life interactions.

The preparation seminar of two days gave a brief introduction to the students into the Indian economy, the education system, politics and society in large with the aim to sensitise them towards an intercultural competence.

The Summer School is organised for 20 selected students from Bavarian universities and lasts two to three weeks in India. The programme will take place in Bangalore, Mysore, Kochi and Munnar in 2019.  The summer school will start at the beginning of September in cooperation with the St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) in Bangalore.

The programme includes various activities such as lectures, company visits and a cultural programme among others. A special part of the programme will be a Design Thinking Workshop together with students from SJIM. This years focus of the Summer School is on the vibrant Indian Start-up scene.

Thereafter Mr José Jacob K, Senior Advisor of BayIND and social entrepreneur gave a lecture on the topic ''Entrepreneurship in India''. The presentation discussed the current dynamic start-up scenarios in India, especially in the city of Bengaluru where 25 per cent of India's start-ups are located.

To add more spice to the evening, Indian students studying at Hof University conducted a Bollywood dance. Their entertaining performance attracted a large audience that enjoyed the Indian music and dance moves.

Thereafter the international students discussed their intercultural experience and culture shock they experienced in Germany after coming from India. In the light of intercultural experiences, the evening came to an end with a film screening of "Amma & Appa". The directors themselves have made the movie on their own Bavarian-Indian love story. Jayakrishnan Subramanian from India and Franziska Schöneberger from Germany were present to answer their unique story after the movie.
