Inaugural Ceremony

On 28 July 2009 BayIND was ceremonially opened with Federal Minister zu Guttenberg

The Bavarian-Indian Centre for Business and University Cooperation (BayIND) was inaugurated with a colourful ceremony in the presence of almost 400 guests at the "Großes Haus" in Theatre Hof. The prize-winning dance ensemble "Lamira Faro" commenced the inauguration with a traditonal Indian Welcoming Ceremony, which was fascinating for the guests.

The guests were greeted by the President of the University of Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Jürgen Lehmann, who is also the Chairman of the Board of the Centre, and the Mayor of Hof Mr. Eberhard Siller. Following this, the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Karl-Theodor Freiherr zu Guttenberg gave a speech in which he emphasized the increasing importance of India as a trade partner, as well as a market for German products. India and Germany are connected through a strategic partnership, this furthermore means that the co-operations in future oriented fields, such as the Energy sector, have to be developed and intensified. Scientifically, technically and socially competent people are required to facilitate such co-operations. The Hof University of Applied Sciences makes a very essential contribution to this end through the courses it offers, and additionally through the Bavarian-Indian Centre.

In his speech, the Director-General Dr. Wolfgang Zeitler from the Bavarian State Ministry of Sciences, Research and the Arts also put emphasis on the growing importance of India, especially in the area of Academics and Research. The Bavarian-Indian Centre should contribute in this context to an intensified exchange between Bavarian universities and Indian universities and institutions, as both partners complement one another in several fields. Director-General Dr. Zeitler went on to express his appreciation of the centre's role of building bridges between universities and companies, so as to intensify the knowledge transfer between science and economy. Similarly, the Indian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Sudhir Vyas conveyed the Indian perspective  by highlighting the importance of cooperation and the enhanced collaboration between India and Bavaria.

The programme consisting of lectures on the topics "Land of Contrasts - India's Economic Structure" and "Universities and Research in India" began in the morning at the campus of the Hof University of Applied Sciences. The multifaceted lectures provided insights into India's academic landscape.

We would like to thank the "Vereinigung der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (vbw) and the "Fördergesellschaft der Hochschule Hof" for their generous support.
