DWIH New Delhi

Welcoming BayIND as a new consortium member

On 16. November 2013, Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Jürgen Lehmann (Chairman of the Board of BayIND) received the DWIH New Delhi certificate of membership during the “Excellence on Tour” – DWIH fair in Ahmedabad, India.

The German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi is one of five locations worldwide. Other locations are New York (USA), Moscow ( Russia), Tokyo (Japan), Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Aim of the DWIH consortium comprising research-funding institutions, research centres and representatives of German universities is to further strengthen research cooperation and bilateral synergies between Indian and German academic and scientific communities. The membership in DWIH became possible through the opening of the BayIND Science Office in Bangalore this year in May. With BayIND, the DWIH consortium in India consists now of 15 members of the German scientific landscape and is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. Other members are Fraunhofer society, Max-Planck and the German Research Foundation (DFG). The consortium wishes to strengthen the image of Germany as a competent partner in the field of science and research and to create a so called “one stop shop” for interested students, researchers and potential partner institutions.

For BayIND, the membership in DWIH helps to implement two important goals: firstly, networking with Indian partners and secondly, the support of transfer projects between science and industry in the Indo-German context. The DWIH provides a platform for German institutions in India and is a unique opportunity for BayIND to contribute to a strong appearance of Germany as a location of science and innovation.
