BayIND Summer School

Bavarian students in India

Meeting with the Home Minister of Karnataka, Dr. G. Parameshwara

The BayIND summer school has taken place for the 4th time in India, bringing a group of 19 students from different Bavarian state Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences  to India (22nd August - 7th September 2016).  Aim of the summer school is to introduce the various aspects of present day India to the students, insights into the economy, politics, culture, society, as well as socio-economic and environmental challenges.  This year’s summer school brought the students to Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Bangalore and the Western Ghats.

The stay at the PSG College in Coimbatore had a focus on lectures at the college as well as an intensive project work with the Indian students of the German-Indian Management Studies programme.

In Bangalore, the group of students had a diverse programme from visiting Daimler, the Alternative Law Forum, ATREE, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, the German Consulate, and an interactive workshop on Indian music.

The official programme concluded with a visit of Vidhana Soudha and a meeting with the current Home Minister of Karnataka, Dr. G. Parameshwara.

The summer school hopes to be a start in building bridges between Bavaria and India – bridges built on understanding, curiosity and respect for each other’s country and culture, and lasting connections between people that can lead to so much more in the future.
